Actually, despite the shortened night, they woke up happy and ready to go. Little did they know we had several hours of driving yet before the Golden Spike!
As we passed Twin Falls, we stopped at the Snake River Gorge for a quick look. The kids were duly impressed. (Wait 'til they see the Grand Canyon!)
As part of our learning - not to mention it was at a rest area, we discussed the Idaho/Utah desert and the long-gone Lake Bonneville. Don't know what that is? Ask the kids (to see if they remember...).
Another first for the kids came when we crossed over into Utah. Other than the sign, it was less than memorable. Quoth Kayl, "It doesn't look any different..." Give it a few miles, sweety.
On our way to the Golden Spike National Historic Site (click here to see that post), we made an amazing discovery - a rocket display out in the middle of nowhere. Okay, it's not really nowhere, and there's a whole complex out there with folks making rocket parts, but we stumbled across it without any of the tourist info we looked over letting us know it would be there...
After the Golden Spike, the kids napped while dad drove the rest of the way into Salt Lake City to the airport. We rented a room at the Holiday Inn, got some Internet done, and then picked Mary up. A quick dinner, showers (yea!) and to bed in a real bed. Tomorrow, the lake and some dinosaurs...
