After the morning on the island in the lake, it was a (semi) quick run down to Lehi (a southern suburb of Salt Lake City) to the Museum of Ancient Life. Click here for the pictures from there.
A quick stop for gas & dinner, and then back on the road. We wanted to be at the visitor's center for the Dinosaur National Monument when it opened the next morning, and that was a good 4 hour drive away! One thing we haven't mentioned yet: Every time we roll over 100 miles on the odometer, the kids have a little "100 Mile" celebration - 5 of them the first day, and 3 of them the second. Well, on the way out to Jensen, we hit the first big one: 1000 Miles! We had to stop and have a big dancing party for that one...
Shortly after that, we had an awesome sunset. We needed a 'potty' stop anyway, and there was a rest stop near, so we took another quick break for some photos.
We packed back in the car and kept going - the kiddo watching a movie and Mary helping me navigate in the dark. We weren't nearly as far as we wanted to be when the sun went down. First, we spent longer at the dinosaur museum than we had planned (no regrets there - it was fantastic!); second, we were much more east in the time zone than we realized so the sun was further away; and lastly, we came down into a 'valley' area behind some of the mountains and the sun was thoroughly blocked. It got really dark!! Later (actually, much later) that night we found our stopping place - the rest area in Jensen, just 4 miles from our destination!
